Declan Rice haunts West Ham in comfortable Arsenal win

Mikel Arteta enjoyed a triumphant 300th match in charge of Arsenal after goals by Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka clinched a 2-0 home win over West Ham. The Hammers had claimed all three points on their last two visits to Emirates Stadium to dent the Gunners' title bids, but their old captain Rice helped ensure it was a different story this time. Rice broke the deadlock in the 38th-minute with a powerful finish before Saka's penalty after 67 minutes wrapped up a routine victory for the Gunners. It was not a perfect afternoon for Arteta with captain Martin ร˜degaard forced off with an injury and Viktor Gyรถkeres unable to score to extend his goal drought to six matches going into the October international break. New West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo has far more problems, though, with the east London side firmly in the relegation zone after a fifth Premier League loss of the campaign. After recent criticism over a failure to take the handbrake off, Arteta went bold in his milesto...

Senne Lammens kept a clean sheet on his Manchester United debut to help ease some of the pressure on his boss Ruben Amorim. Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko scored the goals in United's 2-0 win over Sunderland but the crowd enjoyed the goalkeeper's display

Lammens' best save came late in the game when he kept out a Chemsdine Talbi effort with his legs but the Belgian goalkeeper was hardly overworked. There were bigger cheers when he claimed a cross in stoppage time, his second good claim of the game. How United need that sort of commanding presence in goal with supporters unconvinced by the performances of Altay Bayindir. Lammens, signed from Antwerp late in the window, also looked composed when kicking with his right and left foot. There was one hairy moment when he chased out of his goal on the angle only to see Bertrand Traore get there first amid some uncertainty with Bruno Fernandes. But as debuts go, this was a fine effort from a 23-year-old goalkeeper with a huge task ahead of him.

Estevao scored a 95th-minute winner to earn Chelsea a 2-1 victory and inflict a third consecutive defeat in all competitions on Liverpool.

However, the Reds were deservedly beaten when the Brazilian teenager Estevao turned home in added time, sparking wild scenes at Stamford Bridge, including from head coach Enzo Maresca, who was sent off for running down the touchline to celebrate with his players. Arne Slot's side had to come from behind after Moises Caicedo blasted Chelsea ahead in the 14th minute with an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box that crashed into the top left corner. Chelsea's 100 per cent WSL record ended with Man Utd draw

Chelsea's 100 per cent record in the Barclays WSL this season has come to an end as they played out an entertaining 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Marc Skinner's side had taken just a single point from their previous 11 league encounters with Chelsea, but thoroughly deserved their second after Sweden full-back Anna Sandberg's superb volley levelled Wieke Kaptein's early well-worked opener. It was the first time the Blues had dropped a point since March and, in her 27th league game since replacing Emma Hayes, rarely has boss Sonia Bompastor come closer to her first defeat in domestic competition. The French coach's tension showed when she bellowed at the fourth official after a decision went against her team in the United box, earning a yellow card from referee Abigail Byrne and derision from the home supporters in the stand behind her. Not even the second-half introduction of superstar forward Sam Kerr could help Chelsea force an equaliser, despite spendi...

Many football fans will be aware of the story of the volcanic ash cloud that scuppered Robert Lewandowski's potential move to Blackburn Rovers - but there was another club in England the striker wishes he had joined.

"To Manchester United I decided and said yes," he told BBC Sport. "I wanted to join Manchester United, to see Alex Ferguson." The prospect of a move to the Red Devils came in 2012, when Lewandowski was scoring prolifically at Borussia Dortmund - and two years after a volcanic eruption in Iceland had put paid to his Blackburn switch. However, the German club simply did not want to let their talismanic striker go. "They could not sell me," Lewandowski said. "Because they knew if I stayed they could earn more money, and that I could wait maybe one or two more years. "But it is true that I said yes to Manchester United." While that move failed to materialise, Lewandowski has enjoyed a stellar career at some of Europe's biggest clubs, winning the Champions League with Bayern Munich and La Liga twice at his current club Barcelona. At 37 he has no plans to retire any time soon, but accepts a Premier League opportunity has probably passe...

How McTominay became a Ballon d'Or nominee

Italian champion. Serie A player of the year. Idolised by one of football's most passionate fanbases. And now a Ballon d'Or nominee. If the past year has been a dream for Scott McTominay he would not want to wake up. The 28-year-old Napoli and Scotland midfielder's place on the 30-man shortlist for the world's best player was confirmed 347 days after his last game for Manchester United. That was as a substitute. Away to Brighton. In a 2-1 defeat. But while his boyhood club United toiled to a 15th-place finish, McTominay was living the dream in Naples, after moving for a bargain £25.7m fee on 30 August. He finished the season with 12 league goals, Napoli won the league and McTominay was named Serie A's MVP (most valuable player). And like something from a film script, it was McTominay's spectacular scissor kick against Cagliari on the last day of the season that sent Napoli on their way to winning the title. A far cry from the player who would probably ...

Former Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has joined Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps for the rest of the 2025 season.

The 35-year-old left the German side at the end of last season when his contract expired, bringing an end to his 25-year association with the Bundesliga champions. Vancouver's deal includes the option to sign Muller as a designated player (DP) for the 2026 MLS season - each club is allowed three DPs whose wages are not counted against their salary cap. Whitecaps acquired the discovery priority rights for Muller from FC Cincinnati in exchange for $200,000 (£149,000) in 2025 general allocation money (GAM), $100,000 (£75,000) in 2026 GAM, and a conditional $100,000 (£75,000) in 2026 GAM. He will officially join the club upon receipt of his international transfer certificate (ITC), visa and work permit. "I'm looking forward to coming to Vancouver to help this team win a championship," said Muller, who started his youth career at Bayern in 2000 and led them to two Champions League and 13 Bundesliga titles. "I've heard great things about the city, but first an...

Son Heung-min admits a move to Los Angeles FC was not his "first choice" but a chat with the club's president "changed his heart" to join for a record Major League Soccer (MLS) fee. BBC Sport understands LAFC have paid a fee in excess of £20m for the former Tottenham Hotspur captain, whose two-year contract has the option of an additional two years. Son revealed in a news conference on Saturday he would leave Tottenham after 10 years at the club. The 33-year-old was present at LAFC's 2-1 Leagues Cup win over Mexican side Tigres UANL on Tuesday. The fee paid to Spurs for the South Korean surpasses the previous MLS record of £16.5m paid by Atlanta United to sign Emmanuel Latte Lath from Middlesbrough in February. "It's a dream come true. LA - what a city," said Son on Wednesday. "If I'm honest, it was not my first choice. But the first call I had with [LAFC co-president] John [Thorrington] after my season finished, he changed my mi...
