Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick as Paris St-Germain thrashed Montpellier to move 12 points in Ligue 1.

Arnaud Nordin scored for the hosts and Teji Savanier drew them level. The France striker's 50th-minute strike flew in off the crossbar and he finished his third from close range while Lee Kang-in and Nuno Mendes were also on the scoresheet for PSG. Mbappe now has 24 league goals for the season after scoring his third hat-trick of the campaign. It has been an unusual period for the 25-year-old who has been on the bench for two of PSG's past three league games and came off at half time against Monaco where he watched the second half with his mother in the stands. His benchings followed the announcement that he has agreed to join Real Madrid at the end of the season. Before that Mbappe has one final chance to secure European glory with PSG who will face Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals. He also looks set to win a fourth league title in the past five seasons, as PSG moved even further ahead of second-placed Brest, who drew 1-1 at home to Lille earlier in the d...

Man Utd 4-3 Liverpool: Erik ten Hag hopes FA Cup win is turning point in season

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes the epic 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final victory over arch-rivals Liverpool can be the turning point of their season. Trailing deep in normal time and again in extra time, United eventually went through in thrilling style thanks to Amad Diallo's 121st-winner. It keeps alive United's hopes of lifting silverware this season and, with their main rivals for a Champions League spot, Tottenham and Aston Villa, both dropping points, Ten Hag feels the win, which triggered euphoric seasons among the home supporters at the final whistle, could be significant. "This could be that moment," said Ten Hag. "It can give the team the belief and energy to do amazing things. When you beat Liverpool you can beat any opponent." Ten Hag said he believed his side's performance in the first half hour was their best of the season. However, the situation appeared bleak when Alexis Mac Allister and Mo Salah both scored in the final sta...

Atletico Madrid dramatically beat Inter Milan on penalties to reach the Champions League quarter-finals and eliminate last season's runners-up.

It finished 2-2 on aggregate at the end of extra time after Inter had thrown away a two-goal advantage. Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak was then the hero, saving penalties from Alexis Sanchez and Davy Klaassen, before Inter's Lautaro Martinez blasted his spot-kick over as the Spanish side advanced in thrilling style. The draw for the quarter-finals takes place at 11:00 GMT on Friday, 15 March with Atletico's potential opponents being Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Paris St-Germain, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, who beat PSV Eindhoven in Wednesday's other tie. But Atletico pulled a goal back two minutes later, drawing level on the night. Koke's pass was not cleared, Benjamin Pavard sliced his clearance and Antoine Griezmann reacted quickest to give his side hope of a memorable fightback. Substitute Depay hit the inside of the post for Atletico as they looked to get the goal they needed. It came soon after as Depay's low, angled shot in t...

Borussia Dortmund reached the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in three years thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus against PSV Eindhoven.

Sancho's low driving shot from the edge of the area gave Dortmund the lead in the third minute. Edin Terzic's side had a second goal ruled out as Niclas Fullkrug was deemed to be offside in the build-up. Substitute Reus pounced on a PSV mistake deep in stoppage time to finish one-on-one against away goalkeeper Walter Benitez and settled the tie. PSV had numerous opportunities to equalise, with Hirving Lozano particularly wasteful, and Peter Bosz's side - who are 10 points clear at the top of the Eredivisie - were punished for their squandering. Lozano, brought on as a second-half substitute, slashed wide from close range, shot straight at home goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and also missed the target from the edge of the area. The best chance for PSV came a minute before Dortmund's late second goal. Luuk de Jong got on the end of a one-two but he leaned back and fired over from close range as PSV's time in the Champions League came to a frustrating end. The home sid...

Fabio Silva: On-loan Wolves forward 'loving' being at Rangers and open to longer stay

Fabio Silva would be happy to formalise a longer term move to Rangers if it were solely up to him. The on-loan Wolves forward, 21, has scored four goals in 13 appearances since joining Rangers in January. The Portuguese had joined Wolves from Porto for a reported £35m in 2020 and has previously been loaned out to Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven. "I'm loving being here," he said after scoring Rangers' second in the 2-0 Scottish Cup win over Hibernian. "I don't control these things 100%. It's not 100% my decision to stay, if it was up to me then maybe yes. But I could say 'yes' and then you have a lot of things still to be taken care of. "Perhaps I have the least input into whether I stay here but we have two months to enjoy the football, to win titles and I think after that, if we win trophies and everything goes well, Rangers and I will do everything for me to stay. "When you see me playing with a smile on my face, I think everything...

Barcelona are yet to lose away from home in La Liga this season, winning seven and drawing six

Barcelona failed to capitalise on results elsewhere in La Liga after a goalless draw at Athletic Bilbao which means they stay third in the table. The Basque side dug in from the outset with a well-organised defensive unit, looking to play on the counter. Joao Cancelo went closest to scoring for Barca but his 40-yard effort was cleared off the line by Yeray Alvarez. With second-placed Girona losing at Mallorca, a win for Barcelona would have seen them move up to second. Athletic's gameplan worked to a point, denying Barcelona clear openings, but they were unable to pose any serious threat when they did get the opportunity to break. Portugal full-back Cancelo was inches away from putting the visitors in front midway through the first half when he met Unai Simon's clearance first time from just inside the hosts' half. The goalkeeper managed to backtrack to get a hand on the effort and Alvarez then desperately hooked the ball off the line. The pattern of play remained th...

Bayer Leverkusen are closing in on ending Bayern Munich dominance of the Bundesliga

Bayer Leverkusen moved 10 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga following victory at 10-man Cologne. After defending champions Bayern Munich were held to a 2-2 draw by Freiburg on Friday, Xabi Alonso's side had a big opportunity to extend their lead. Their task was aided when Cologne's Jan Thielmann was shown a straight red card for a foul on Granit Xhaka. Jeremie Frimpong then opened the scoring before Alex Grimaldo's low strike made it 2-0 in the second half. Leverkusen, who have now gone 34 games without defeat in all competitions this season, are on 64 points with Bayern second on 54.

Manchester United fighting for fifth and possible Champions League spot, says Erik ten Hag

Manchester United have lost 11 games in the Premier League this season Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is refusing to give up on Champions League qualification even though his side are now 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa with 11 games left. New co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made getting into Europe's most glamorous competition a priority for the season. But United's 3-1 defeat at Manchester City means they now need Villa to slip up badly, or for the Premier League to end up with five spots in the expanded competition. Even then, United will need fifth-placed Tottenham to fail as Ange Postecoglou's side are six points clear, with a game in hand. "It can be a quick turnaround," said Ten Hag. "We have to go into another final and try and get closer to them. "It can be an advantage that fifth spot can also be a Champions League spot, so we have to go for it and win our games." United's task is not helped by the fact they...

Fast-break frailty: How Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag can expose the one glitch in Man City's machine

Fast breaks have been the one area of frailty that has led to almost 20 per cent of the goals Manchester City have conceded - a higher percentage than any other side in the Premier League Erling Haaland continues to write his name into the annals of Manchester City history. With the help of his pass-master Kevin De Bruyne, the Norwegian this week took his goal tally in all competitions to 27 for the season. It came less than four weeks after the 23-year-old's return to the side following nearly two months out with a foot injury, and took his total since joining City in the summer of 2022 to 79 in 83 appearances. Pep Guardiola kept his goalscoring juggernaut on for longer than necessary as Luton let in six in midweek, but the Catalan knows stiffer challenges lie ahead, where an exhibition in finishing must be coupled with more robust defending. Guardiola knows his side could still fall short of the double Treble. On Sunday, when Manchester United visit the Etihad Stadium Guard...

Embarrassing' - Aurelien Tchouameni reacts to Real Madrid's crazy disallowed goal against Valencia - with Jude Bellingham sent off for complaining

Aurelien Tchouameni expressed displeasure on social media as Real Madrid's last-gasp goal got disallowed against Valencia. WHAT HAPPENED? Jude Bellingham saw his 99th-minute winner against Valencia getting disallowed as referee Gil Manzano had already blown the final whistle before the cross was played in. The English midfielder then vehemently protested and screamed obscenities at the match official which resulted in his sending off. Jude Bellingham thought he had scored the most dramatic of late winners for Real Madrid against Valencia but it was ruled out because the ball had crossed the line after referee Jesus Gil had blown for full-time. The England midfielder protested and was sent off in chaotic scenes as Real Madrid players surrounded the referee and pushing and shoving with Valencia players ensued at the end of a dramatic 2-2 draw. It was always going to be an emotional night. It was Valencia’s first home game since an apartment block fire in the city claimed 10 live...
